The Opportunity

 

KCUR 89.3 is seeking a creative journalist to help set the conversational agenda for the Kansas City metro area in a unique daily talk/magazine show. This full-time associate producer will have their finger on the pulse of local and national culture and news, develop timely and engaging show ideas, find compelling voices in our communities beyond prominent newsmakers and experts, and create digital and social content to expand the reach of the broadcast.

 

The Show and Station

 

Central Standard is a weekday morning show covering arts and ideas. Hosted by Gina Kaufmann, the show is built around live conversations, occasionally including callers, and enhanced by produced elements and creative feature reporting. Conversations on Central Standard take an unexpected angle on the news of the day, and tap into fresh new themes related to life in the Kansas City region.  KCUR 89.3 is a dynamic and rapidly-expanding news organization with a committed following in a city that’s fun, tech-savvy, culturally-rich yet affordable.

Basic Function and Responsibility

 

The associate producer will work closely and collaboratively with the lead producer, host and others to formulate show ideas and concepts, research shows, screen and book guests, write and mix promos and billboards, and edit audio for broadcast.  Occasionally, will be responsible for the live production of the show. This person must have the abilities to remain calm during the demands of live radio production; and to work on diverse projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.  The associate producer will create engaging digital content related to shows, contribute to social media, do field recording, mix audio for the show, and occasionally voice reports and features for broadcast.  This person will take direction and work collaboratively with various personalities.  The associate producer must have enthusiasm for the role of public media in a changing journalism environment.
