Details: (WDAF-TV) is looking for a digital sports reporter ready to provide championship-level coverage of Kansas City’s favorite teams! Located just up the hill from the state line of Missouri and Kansas, we’re the number one station in the market both on TV and online, and we need someone ready to break sports news, write compelling stories, and be versatile to cover athletes at the professional, collegiate, and high school level. This position is primarily writing, with the ability to shoot highlights, cut video and assert presence on social media.

Responsibilities include:
• Writing multiple sports stories daily for, and providing content our sports team and producers can use during TV broadcasts
• Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Builds sources who help us gather sports news before information is widely distributed
• Is our beat reporter for the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, Sporting Kansas City, Kansas, Kansas State and University of Missouri athletics
• Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner
• Assists in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating sports programming and other content
• Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsroom situations as required
• Is a member of a four-person sports team, which develops comprehensive sports coverage, including keeping an editorial calendar
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
• Shoots highlight video for sports reports, especially during high school football and basketball season
• Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience

• Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities
• Knowledge of camera, camera equipment, with ability to shoot and edit
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Minimum three years’ experience in sports reporting or anchoring (More or less depending on market size)
• Proficiency with digital media, web content platforms and social media platforms
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Flexibility to work any shift
