KMMO AM and FM in Marshall Missouri has a current opening in our two person news department.
This full time position comes with a salary based on experience/education, health insurance package, paid vacation and sick/personal days and company funded retirement.
We are a locally owned and operated, stand-alone radio station with a 70+ year track record of service to the communities we serve and an owner that is on-site daily.
Qualified candidates will have either experience or formal education but we will train the right person.
Duties include but are not limited to…able to work flexible hours, cover meetings at night, interviewing, edit audio clips for stories, posting stories to our web site and Facebook.
This position is excellent for starting a career in radio.
News Reporter Duties and Responsibilities
To accomplish their primary goal of broadcasting current and accurate information to listeners.
Gather and Write News
News Reporters collect information on assigned topics, talk to sources, follow-up on leads, and do research to be as well informed as possible. They fact-check their findings, then write them up in a story to be read on-air and published on-line.
In broadcasting, News Reporters report news live during newscasts, recorded in a studio and or in the field, depending on the story.
A key component of a News Reporter’s job is to conduct interviews. Typically, these are pre-recorded and edited. The News Reporter must have done research in advance and be prepared to ask pointed and interesting question of the interview subject.
News Reporters are tasked with generating new and interesting news stories. They must always be looking for unique, relevant and urgent topics to bring to the public, and investigating interesting new angles of stories that have already been covered.
News Reporter Skills
Inquisitive, outgoing and driven, successful News Reporters are curious to find out as much as they can about any given topic and share it with the public. They are driven and persistent, and have excellent interpersonal skills and strong ethics. In addition to these general skills and personality traits, KMMO is seeking a News Reporter candidates with the following skills.
